6 Master Approach to Reinventing Yourself

As I mentioned in my previous post I have been in a place where I was thrust to make a shift. At that time I knew what was going through my mind was nothing new and I realized I had those thoughts in my head before. However, I have always ignored it – at my own peril of course, for various reasons, but this time I couldn’t escape it. It was sudden and right away I was taken aback. I knew – as a matter of fact, I felt compelled to make the next move. I had no qualms about it. I was mentally prepared but lack awareness. This was the beginning of reinventing my life. One thing for sure even though I was at my lowest I never panic. Instead, I took the opportunity to reassess and change the direction my life was going.

I decided I’m going to take control of my life and do myself a favour, by improving myself and becoming successful on my own terms. I’m not done with myself yet. I am still a work in progress. Creating this blog was one part of my life-changing move.

I’d like to share with you 6 strategies for reinventing your life.

Ask yourself if you are ready for a reinvention

Sometimes people change because others are changing. They also change because they want to change and is looking for something more meaningful in life. But the question is: Are they really ready for a change?

I believe real change can only take place when you are ready whether you realize it or not. By that, I meant sometimes you are ready for a change and you’re not aware when it comes, because of its suddenness, but as soon as you realize it you go right into action because it’s what you were waiting for. It is important that you are ready for a change by being mentally prepared aware; and what your ambitions are. Otherwise, you run the risk of quitting or moving in the wrong direction.

Educate yourself

What does this mean? It is to prepare or expand your knowledge in a particular field of study. That can be so many things. You have a lot to choose from. Develop a reading habit (if you have none), listen to the podcast or perhaps go back to school. Educate yourself in order to acuminate your critical thinking skills.

No matter what form the education takes it will benefit you on your self-improvement journey. It will enable you to improve your life in many ways. Such as the ability to socialize with diverse groups, increase your productivity, opportunities, live a satisfactory life; education will benefit you and the society you live in. You must also be educated about yourself. Learning about your weaknesses and strengths. The satisfaction of knowing who you are and the need to learn where and what you want to become is the foundation for achieving your goals.

Decide who you want to become

This isn’t a goal. You are whoever you choose to become. The environment you dwell in also determines who you aspire to be. That is the first change to be made. Examine your interest. What do you enjoy doing? The power to decide who you want to become lies within you. Isn’t that liberating? Never abdicate control because of the fear of losing. Otherwise, one day you’ll wake and realize you’re living someone else’s life. As the saying goes “If you don’t plan your life someone else will do it for you.” Is that correct?

Set boundaries

Setting boundaries will demonstrate what you expect from yourself and others. Personal boundaries are established to protect yourself from machiavellian and unscrupulous personalities. It also allows you to save mental and physical and emotional energies. Recognizing and reinforcing limits help to protect your self-esteem and enjoy normal and healthy relationships on your reinvention journey.

Selfcare

This can be just what it is. Ranging from taking care of your mental and emotional health to socializing. Yes. “No man is an island.” Selfcare is a broad concept that encompasses hygiene, the kind of food you consume, your lifestyle, and socio-economic factors such as your beliefs. Self-care is important to maintaining healthy relationships among your peers and with yourself. Selfcare is a part of your personal development and promotes a healthy lifestyle.

Re-evaluate

There are times when you won’t achieve a goal that you’ve set at a given time. Life changes all the time and so does your goals. What was the goal you set prior to the pandemic? Do you still want? Why? Re-evaluating is one of the best methods to re-inventing your life.

Being honest with yourself is part of the process that may not apply to everyone but it’s very important. Ultimately, you should spend time reflecting on what you did throughout the day. Consequently, you should use a daily planner for effective results. Question what you were unable to accomplish and acknowledge what was accomplished. Practice meditation and prioritize what is realistic and achievable. This will help you to stay focus. Anything you have been putting off try getting it done. Stop procrastinating. Check on yourself at the end of the day. How are you feeling? What have you achieved? Make a note of your answers.

Remove mental blockages that’s holding you back from achieving your goals. Once you have set your goal review the areas of your life and juxtapose your current state with what you have envisioned. Try to figure out what is holding you back from achieving those goals that seem unsurmountable. You can even write them down. Next, change your story and free yourself from the barrier that was created between where you are and where you have your intention. Eliminate excuses you’ve made in the past.

Sometimes all it takes is to realize the story you’ve been telling yourself is a lie.

“We are always one decision away from a totally different life.”
